Her Story

Gnana Moonesinghe is a graduate from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She had edited two books on Nation Building and has also authored a book on Buddhism –  Thus Have I Heard –  and a fictional book of short stories – Build  a Bridge. She worked with the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Sri Lanka Canada Development Fund (SLCDF) and at the Marga Institute (Centre for Development Studies). She set up Shramaya, a non-governmental organization, to provide micro finance to the poor in selected areas in Sri Lanka.  She was its executive director until she left to join her husband, Mangala Moonesinghe, who was posted as High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, first to India and then to the  United Kingdom for a ten year period in all. She is presently a board member of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) and serves on the Press Complaints Commission. She is also a very involved mother and grandmother.
